Dizziness indicates a disturbed sense of relationship to space, and may be produced by abnormalities of related organ systems including the statokinetic system consisting of labyrinth, eighth nerve and vestibular nuclei. For the evaluation of
dizziness,
a variety of methods has been empolyed for qualitative and/or quantitative analysis of equilibrium functions.
In this investigation of 225 cases with dizziness, we used 3 analytical tools, namely the history, auditory function tests, and vestibular function tests, the latters of which were used for confirmation of diagnosis.
In conclusion, the history was the most helpful tool in the diagnosis of dizziness. For accurate diagnosis, however, pure-tone audiometry, monothermal caloric test, and especially electronystagmography(ENG), should be performed, preferably when
the
symptom persists.
